The Avanti Chamber
Players was founded by John Hixson as a response to the tragic
earthquake and tsunami in Japan in 2011. The initial concert was created
to raise funds for the Touhoku victims and was a success both
financially and artistically. Additional concerts ensued, including a
2nd Annual fundraiser for Touhoku and internationally-renowned musicians
started playing with the group.
Avanti Tokyo Chamber Orchestra was born from these activities and comprises the finest, young dynamic string players now in Tokyo.
Avanti! stands for positive, determined, energetic forward movement.
It is this spirit that guides all its projects.
ATCO Artistic Director John Hixson holds the Doctoral Degree from The Juilliard School and has studied conducting with Jorma Panula, Pierre Boulez and Esa-Pekka Salonen. He has performed as chamber musician and conductor throughout North America, Central America, Europe, Scandinavia, Russia and Asia. For more than five years, his musical activity has been based in Tokyo, Japan.
